Biography
Perinne Rau is the ancestral matriarch of the Acadian Thériot Family.
Perrinne Rau was born around 1611.[1] in France.
Around 1636 she married Jean Thériot. Between about 1637 and 1654 Perinne gave birth to seven children: Claude, Jean, Bonaventure (dit Venture), Jeanne, Germain, Catherine, and Pierre.[1]
The family arrived in Acadia prior to 1650.[1] In 1671, 60 year old Perinne is found living with her family in Port Royal (Annpolis Royal Acadia). Perinne died sometime after the 1671 Census.

Discussion
Last Name. Ambiguity still exists among researchers as to Perrine's last name due to lack of evidence other than the 1671 census.[6] Brault and Bourg are proposed alternatives to Rau, but without further evidence it is prudent to follow Stephen White's lead and stick with Rau.
Given Perrine's ambiguous identity, it follows that her parents are not known. René Brault and Marie Renulme have been suggested as being Perrine's parents, but DNA evidence would suggest Perrine does not share the same mother as Marie's daughter Renée[7] Also, René would have been around 8 years old when Perrine was born.
DNA. Perrinne Rau's maternal DNA is H4a [8] Ongoing test results are also reported here. As of May 2014, 8 descendants have consistently reported a haplogroup H, indicating European origins. Maternal family trees linked to mtDNA are found at WikiTree (see connection upper right corner of this profile page), as well as on Lucie LeBlanc Constantino`s origins page.
FIrst Spouse Pierre Brouillard. Some trees maintain that Perrine Rau/Reau was the first wife of Pierre Brouillard. They were married in 1628 in Chalons France, when she was around 17 years old. They separated after the birth of their first child Louis, born 1635 in Chambon France. Perrine went to Acadia while Pierre stayed in France. Pierre remarried (Marguerite Pognon) as did Perrine (Jean Terriau/Theriot). NAME: Adrien Bergeron, LE GRAND ARRANGEMENT DES ACADIENS AU QUEBEC; 1600-1889; vol. 8, Syr-Vig; p. 49; Gail Burk's copy. Name spelled Perrine RUAU, born 1611. But on p. 43, says that Jean TERRIAU married Perrine BOURG [sic] (Reference : Coll. de manuscrits: I/83).
NAME: Bona Arsenault, HISTOIRE ET GENEALOGIE DES ACADIENS , vols. 1-6; 1630-1775; Quebec, Le Conseil de la Vie Franca ise en Amerique, 1965; p. 804 (Port Royal, husband's entry) ; Univ. of Calif., Berkeley Library, CS31 A77 MAIN. Listed as Perrine BOURG [sic], wife of Jean TERRIAU. No separate listing for her as an individual under BOURG. Jean was "without doubt" originally from Martaize (a footnote cites G nevieve Massignon, LES PARLERS FRANCOIS D'ACADIE, vol. 1, p . 49), in the Loudun region, department of Vienne, France . They married around 1635, arrived in Acadia around 1637. First child listed was born in 1637.
NAME-DAUGHTER: Janet B. Jehn, CORRECTIONS & ADDITIONS TO ARSENAULT'S HISTOIRE ET GENEALOGIE DES ACADIENS; 1630-1830 ; by author, 863 Wayman Branch Road, Covington, KY 41015, 1 988; p. 10 (reference to p. 595 of Arsenault). Should be Pe rrine RUAU "as closely as can be determined from handwritte n census, and not BOURG. (1671 census of Acadia)." Also on p. 15-16 (in reference to p. 804 in Arsenault): "Perrine BOURG should read RUAU, according to handwritten original of 1671 census [of Acadia]."
NAME: Her name is sometimes given by researchers as RAU, or REAU, RUAU, BREAU, even BEAU, but the only existing record giving her name is the first census of Port Royal, Acadia in 1671. There are two versions of this document, in two different handwritings, both apparently done near the same time. One is found in France, the other is in the Canadian archives. [There is also another Acadian woman in 1671 named Perrine BOURG married to René LANDRY.]
NAME: Spelled RUAU in Genevieve MASSIGNON's "Les Parlers F rancais d'Acadie," p. 49. This is also the version given by Joseph PITRE on his abstract of the 1671 census.
